Thinking of Laser Vision Correction? Read this first.
Safety and outstanding quality vision are the two most important results for patients who consult with Ra`anan Eye Clinic for laser vision correction. The uniqueness of our laser machine is decribed below and means that patients achieve the fantastic vision they always dreamed. Stories about "halos" after laser vision are almost a thing of the past.

The Laser system described in the following article-ALLEGRETTO WAVE(TM)- is the same laser system which we use at our associate laser centre in Tel Aviv where thousands of successful laser procedures have already performed. The superb results in quality of vision described are not "marketing hype" but proven by the FDA.

First LASIK System Designed to Reduce Nighttime Glare Comes to the Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 2005--
LaserVue Eye Center first Bay Area LASIK center to acquire the only vision correction laser cleared by FDA in nearly five years

Despite LASIK`s fantastic track record for safety and satisfaction in recent years, poor night vision, such as glare and halos, is still the number one post-LASIK complaint. With offices in San Francisco, Mountain View, Walnut Creek and Santa Rosa, LaserVue Eye Center is the first San Francisco Bay Area center to offer a new LASIK technology that has been shown in clinical studies to reduce or eliminate spherical aberration -- optical distortions that are the chief cause of night time glare. The German designed and engineered ALLEGRETTO WAVE(TM) is the first vision correction system in the world specifically built to preserve the natural shape of each patient`s cornea, resulting in clearer vision, in both daylight and low light conditions.

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE`s PerfectPulse Technology(TM) automatically determines each individual`s unique pre-operative corneal curvature and provides a treatment that not only corrects nearsightedness and farsightedness, but also maintains the cornea`s natural shape. As a result, studies have found the ALLEGRETTO WAVE to be one of the first lasers in which patients reported a reduction in postoperative glare compared to their preoperative vision. The system has been successfully used in Europe since the late 90s, where it has been the leader in international sales for the past three years. In the U.S., it was the first new laser platform to be cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in nearly five years, and that clearance was for the highest-ever ranges of nearsightedness and farsightedness.

"No other conventional LASIK treatment takes into account the exclusive curve and slope of each individual`s cornea," said Dr. Jay Bansal, Medical Director of LaserVue Eye Center. "We can now provide a more consistent surgery over the entire treatment area, not just in the center."

HOW PERFECTPULSE TECHNOLOGY WORKS

LASIK systems treat nearsightedness and farsightedness by utilizing a beam of laser energy to reshape the cornea. When the light is focused directly on the center, a complete treatment is given. When the light shines at an angle to treat the sides of the cornea, the energy becomes weaker and more diffused. A study published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery(1) showed that 20% less treatment is given to the peripheral cornea than to the central cornea. This has resulted in incomplete treatment, resulting in vision problems that become more apparent at night, when the pupil enlarges.

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE with PerfectPulse Technology is the first laser system designed to calculate each individual`s corneal shape and compensate for the loss of laser energy on the periphery by providing extra laser pulses. The effective treatment area expands beyond the center portion of the cornea to sharpen vision and reduce the chance of glare and halos after surgery.

"My primary goal as a refractive surgeon is to provide my patients with the best possible overall vision," added Dr. Bansal. "This can be calculated in my office by reading an eye chart but also in the real world by patients functioning with sharper eyesight and improved nighttime driving vision. Since using the ALLEGRETTO WAVE, nearly 93% of my patients are attaining 20/20 vision or better. As importantly, however, there have been far fewer complaints about glare, halo and night vision problems. These results are extraordinary."
